Continental has announced it is supplying the tires for Toyota Material Handling’s latest electric forklift truck.
The heavy-duty Traigo 80 is fitted with the company’s SC20+ solid tire to help the vehicle preserve energy when moving around warehouses.
Presented at this year’s CeMat show in Hannover, Germany in April, the fully-electric counterbalance truck was developed in-house, replacing the Traigo HT range. It is available in 6-, 7- or 8-metric ton models, the latter also available with a 900mm load center.
“The decision to change the tire came in response to feedback from the market requesting more resilient and highly durable tires for the electric counterbalance range,” says Giorgio Polonio, general manager, Toyota Material Handling Manufacturing Italy. “This applies in particular to the Traigo 80 range as it is meant for more intensive applications, indoors as well as outdoors”.
Released in January, the tire comes with a new compound that combines high mileage with low rolling resistance. It is hard-wearing and puncture resistant and works particularly well in highly intensive application indoors, as well as outdoors on uneven surfaces such as paving slabs or cobble stone pavements.
“The SC20+ merges the best of two worlds – not only does it offer durability and mileage, it also saves valuable energy even on abrasive grounds,” said Julian Alexander, product line manager for material handling at Continental.
