These new Manitou industrial units have been designed around users’ expectations: simplicity, comfort, reliability, efficiency and lower operating cost. Use is facilitated as soon as the driver position is accessed, using the well-positioned handles for a quick grip, a wide and anti-slip step and, above all, a large open space on the platform.
The driver can press intuitive controls on the steering wheel for the direction of travel, lighting and signaling, as well as hydraulic controls and controls to reverse the direction of travel, all designed for natural operation. The power-steering facilitates maneuvering, particularly when handling heavy loads. The dashboard has simple instrumentation with a complete and cleverly-positioned display screen to facilitate reading the indicators.
Operators can easily access a cab designed to adapt to the way they work. They can adjust the position of the steering column and the position of their seat. This is fitted with a safety device which neutralizes the movements of the truck if the operator is not there. The wide platform leaves comfortable space for the operator’s legs, the shape and position of the hydraulic controls has been designed for effortless and natural handling, and the overhead guard suspended on a silent block absorbs vibrations to improve driving comfort.
Operators can also count on numerous options to personalize the cab to their use, such as front/rear windscreen with windscreen wiper, closed cab with sliding openings, and heating/air conditioning.
These medium and heavy tonnage MIs are built on a monobloc chassis and have strengthened masts and axles. Proven over many years, the Okamura transmission optimizes the efficiency of the various engines.
The trucks are also equipped, for the medium tonnage units, with drum brakes protected from damp and dust to ensure their strength and, for the heavy tonnages, with oil-bath disc brakes for longevity and improved efficiency.
The overhead guard with honeycomb roof, the optimized hose passage and the upright sections give the driver very good visibility. Safety also means being seen, which is why the MI includes, as standard, headlights, flashing lights, a rear working light and a panoramic interior rear-view mirror.
As reducing machine downtime is a factor in reducing costs, the medium and heavy tonnage MIs have been specially designed to facilitate their maintenance. The simplicity of their design, with a limited number of electronic parts, considerably reduces the possibility of breakdowns and their extent. The main electronic components, relays and fuses are easy to access; they are positioned in sealed casings, protected from dust and damp.
“With the launch of these Manitou medium and heavy-tonnage industrial forklift trucks, our network can now satisfy most of the requirements of users in terms of industrial material handling,” said Patrick Laridan, industrial market and products manager.
“These new models are in line with the fundamentals of the Manitou masted truck ranges, which are attractive to customers primarily seeking equipment that ‘does the job’ while ensuring operator safety and, finally, an optimized operating cost.”
These medium- and heavy-tonnage trucks are intended for applications involving industrial materials-handling and long, bulky or heavy loads.
