At this year’s Bauma, Komatsu is to present an all-new prototype 7.5-tonne wheeled excavator which joins the PW98MR and PW138MR wheeled excavator family.
“This new tight-tail excavator fills the gap below the mid-sized wheeled excavators, granting easy and precise operability with any attachments and the best driving experience on the roads, packed in a super compact machine perfectly sized to work in an urban environment,” says Alex Visentin, product manager for the new wheeled excavator. “This 7,5-tonne wheeled excavator takes full advantage of Komatsu group synergy and know-how to offer high versatility, ease of buying, and peace of mind with the factory-fitted Lehnhoff Powertilt option.”
Komatsu says that the machine can work in a wide variety of utility and landscaping applications with improved efficiency and is a first choice for heavy-duty lifting applications or simple excavating tasks in narrow alleys, road construction sites and for sewer construction work.
Its swing boom design allows digging parallel to buildings or barriers and the two-piece boom design grants flexibility with an extended working diagram.
The new Komatsu wheeled excavator offers low emissions operation through its 49kW Stage V compliant engine, which eliminates the need for diesel exhaust fluid refill, making it an environmentally conscious choice for construction professionals.
According to the OEM, operators will appreciate the machine’s manoeuvrability which has been achieved through an overall maximum width of 2080mm, a short tail radius, and standard 4 Wheel Steering. This configuration provides the smallest turning radius in its product category, enabling enhanced performance in tight urban environments.
The excavator delivers a fast-driving experience thanks to its HST travel system and single gear ratio. This design means operators don’t need to change gears when traveling uphill, ensuring independent operation without compromising attachment utilisation.
Mobility is further enhanced by the standard 100% differential lock, which guarantees excellent traction and prevents the machine from getting stuck in muddy ground. This feature ensures reliability and consistent performance across challenging terrain.

Maintenance costs are reduced due to the elimination of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, providing operators with a more economical and straightforward machine maintenance experience.
The new cab layout advances operator control and comfort. A 7″ monitor and innovative slow speed control system put complete machine management at the operator’s fingertips. Operators can seamlessly control travel direction, undercarriage attachments, and manual/automatic axle lock using switches on the control joysticks or dashboard. The design allows for switching between boom operation and undercarriage control without removing the hand from the right joystick, ensuring precise control of the parallel dozer blade.
With the widest working diagram in its category, the excavator offers exceptional digging depth, reach, and height. Operators benefit from maximum flexibility by choosing between a mono-boom or a two-piece boom configuration.
Safety and versatility are further enhanced by a range of optional features, including a rear-view camera, multiple tire options, Komatsu Integrated Attachment Control (KIAC) for optimal attachment matching, LED hydraulic lights, and a quick coupler. These options demonstrate Komatsu’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and adaptable machinery solution.
