The Committee for European Construction Equipment (CECE) took part in high-level meetings with the European Parliament’s president, Antonio Tajani, last week. A group of 25 director generals representing various industrial trade associations officially presented him with a joint reaction paper.
Handing over the For an ambitious EU industrial strategy: Going further paper to Tajani, CECE’s secretary general Riccardo Viaggi highlighted an unprecedented collaborative spirit and the success obtained by the broad coalition of trade associations, having collated 126 co-signatories to the paper within 12 months.
On his side, President Tajani reiterated the need for the EU to safeguard and further strengthen the continent’s industrial competitiveness, as he did as European Commissioner for Industry with the Industrial Renaissance and the 20% GDP goal. Tajani insisted on the need to take the work a step further, ensuring a proper follow-up of the Commission’s communication on Industrial Policy Strategy of September 2017.
The event followed shortly after CECE met with Construction Products Europe, FIEC (European Construction Industry Federation) and EBC (Construction SMEs Europe) to discuss the forming of an inclusive digital strategy. It was the first time the four organizations of major industries have gathered on this topic at the highest political level, inviting respective members to attend a stakeholder workshop on digital construction.
