Caterpillar has made a number of design refinements to its latest articulated trucks to improve operator safety and comfort.
The Cat 730, 730 EJ and 735 machines have been extensively redesigned with new operator stations that include updated controls, transmission-protection features, a fuel-saving driving mode as well as advanced hoist-assist, traction control and stability assist systems. The company has also enhanced the articulated trucks with automatic retarder control and a hill-start feature.
In a statement, Caterpillar said, “The cab’s new external ‘spinal-ROPS’ design incorporates a rear-quarter glass that eliminates a structural pillar in the C-Series design, for enhanced rear visibility.
“A new ‘wake-up’ feature initiates the machine’s displays when the door is opened, while the door is of a lighter, stronger design and comes with a shut-assist feature for improved sealing against dust infiltration.”
As a result of the design changes, the cab, in all three vehicles, now has lower inside sound levels at 72 dB(A – a 7 dB(A) reduction compared to previous models. Optional new infrared glass reduces solar heating inside the cab and a new, automatic climate-control system positions more vents above and behind the operator for increased heating and cooling efficiency. A heated/cooled seat gives operators the opportunity to set their preferred heating settings – these can be stored and quickly retrieved for future occasions.
