The new Caterpillar 320D2 GC hydraulic excavator is engineered for low operating costs, simple routine maintenance, high productivity and long-term durability.
Equipped with a four-cylinder, turbocharged Cat 3054CA engine, the new model is exceptionally fuel efficient, delivering fuel savings of up to 19% compared with the C7.1 engine on the 320D2. The 320D2 GC features a powerful hydraulic system, heavy-duty main structures and an operator’s station designed for optimum comfort and convenience.
Its Cat 3054CA engine is rated at 88.4 net kW (SAE J1349) and meets US EPA tier 2 and European Union stage II equivalent emission standards. With an optimized oil pan, the engine requires only 16 liters of oil, reducing overall operating costs, which are estimated to be around 6% less over 2,000 hours compared to the predecessor model 320D2 L with the C7.1 engine.
A fixed-speed cooling fan further reduces power draw and fuel consumption, while also helping to lower machine bystander sound levels to 101 dB and meeting China stage 2 and Brazilian sound regulations. An efficient fuel-filtration ensures clean fuel for trouble-free performance and long engine life.
The 320D2 GC’s implement hydraulic system provides high hydraulic horsepower for digging and lifting, as well as for using hydraulically powered work tools, including a pin-on hydraulic hammer.
The pilot-type hydraulic system is designed to provide low-effort operation and precise control, to deliver fast light-load speeds, and to conserve fuel by reducing the load on the hydraulic pumps with boom- and stick-regeneration systems that activate during boom-down and stick-in operations.
The excavator also features a durable mainframe, track frames and front linkage and is offered with a reach boom 5.7m and a 2.9m stick configuration which covers all the utility applications featuring high-strength-steel, box-section construction with internal baffles for added strength.
The ergonomically-designed operator station is both quiet and comfortable, and features a full-color LCD monitor. The standard suspension seat is adjustable to accommodate a wide range of operators and to enhance operator comfort and efficiency. Large windows ensure all-around visibility and promote job-site safety, while viscous rubber cab mounts dampen both vibration and sound.
The 320D2 GC also features ground-level access to most routine service points, including pumps and filters, which are conveniently located behind a service door on the right side. The left rear service door allows easy access to the radiator, oil cooler, air-to-air after cooler, and AC condenser.
A reserve tank and drain valve attached to the radiator simplify service, and a central grease block on the boom allows easy lubricating of hard-to-reach locations on the front linkage. SOS (Scheduled Oil Sampling) ports ensure quality samples from circulating fluid in the engine oil, hydraulic and cooling systems, and convenient hydraulic test ports allow safe, accurate checks of system pressures.
Product Link is deeply integrated into the machine, helping take the guesswork out of equipment management; easy access to timely information like machine location, hours, fuel usage, idle time and event codes via the online VisionLink user interface can help to effectively manage a fleet and reduce operating costs.
