Leica Geosystems is supporting the digitization of the construction industry with the launch of two machine control solutions. Part of the Hexagon group, the firm introduced an upgraded ConX web interface for off-highway machines and new MC1 software specifically for excavators to the market at Bauma in Munich, Germany, this year.
Designed to help create a connected ecosystem across multiple construction sites, ConX brings operators, foremen and project owners together on one digital platform. The upgrade now sees the platform offer a new 3D environment and using sensor merging provides information in real time.
“Leica ConX helps transfer project files and keeps track of the machines from the office. When working with many different contractors on a large construction site, it is important that everybody is on the same page with the latest updated files,” said Pontus Holmberg, chief surveyor at Skanska Sverige.
Regarding the MC1, the common software interface is now available for excavators to provide guidance and automation for operations across construction projects.
Additionally, the software enables automatic recognition of tools connected to the machine, which decreases the chance of improper buckets and possible over digging.

It’s easy to understand, and there are integrated help functions to guide you if you need help. The Create Model function where you can use the excavator’s bucket to create simple and even complex models on the fly is very easy to use and a great improvement.”
