Liebherr has announced the extension of its reach stacker family with the addition of two models. The LRS 545-35 and the LRS 545 log handler arrive three years after a prototype LRS 545 first appeared at TOC Europe 2015 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The former of the two new models is capable of lifting 35 metric tons in the second container row, while the log handler has a grapple capacity of 8.2m2.
Eric Colditz, Liebherr sales director for reach stackers, said, “Since the first introduction of the LRS 545 series, there have been a lot of changes and innovations within the reach stacker market. Especially in order to meet these growing demands on products it is essential for Liebherr to keep a finger on the pulse of time.
“Ever since the market launch in June 2015, all the devices of the LRS 545 series have been among the most innovative ones on the reach stacker market. The decisive factor above all is the unique drive concept of the Liebherr reach stackers, the hydrostatic drive.”
Proven technology
The proven hydrostatic drive technology is already applied to more than 70,000 of the company’s wheel loaders and enables a number of unique advantages over competitive products, including: extended durability of the differential and torque converters. It can also be combined with Liebherr’s 230kW diesel engine to provide fuel savings of up to 30% compared to the market average.
“Since the last three years we collected an enormous amount of valuable feedback from our customers,” said Colditz. “The operators praise particularly the stepless and gearless driving characteristics of our devices repeatedly. Thanks to the individual wheel drive and the excellent panoramic view from the driver’s cab, our reach stackers are well-known for their high mobility and all-round visibility, even on terminals with narrow container rows.”
To increase the safety aspects of the vehicles during operation, Liebherr developed the Topview camera system, which is an optional feature available for all device types of the LRS 545 series. The innovative Topview offers the driver rear and side views from a bird’s-eye perspective, without any blind spots. Due to the logical composition of three camera images, the complete rear area is covered by the system at an angle of 270°.
