The highlights of new vehicles to be seen at Intermat keep coming and this week we’re showcasing electric wheeled loaders, carbon-fibre concrete pumps, compact telehandlers and heavy tandem rollers.
Wacker Neuson WL20e
Wacker Neuson will highlight the first wheeled loader with an electric drive system for emission-free work. The wheel loader awarded with the Wacker Neuson ECO seal for particularly economical and environmentally friendly products has the same performance as the conventional model WL20, and is similar to sister company Weidemann’s eHoftrac agricultural model featured in iVT February 2014.
Two electric motors, one for the drive system and one for the hydraulics, ensure that the performance parameters of the wheel loader WL20e correspond to those of the conventional machine. The off-road capability is similar to the diesel-driven model WL20. No exhaust emissions result when working with the new wheel loader, which is an aspect that is becoming increasingly important, especially on construction sites in urban areas, when working indoors, such as in greenhouses, building restorations or parking garages.
With the wheel loader, CO2 emissions can be reduced by up to 43% a fact that underlines the machine’s environmental friendliness. A positive ancillary effect is the significant reduction of noise emissions. In addition, the energy costs of the wheel loader WL20e are well below those of a diesel-operated model savings of up to 50% are possible and there are additional cost advantages in the maintenance and service intervals, since fewer elements and components are used that are exposed to wear or that could fail.
Once the battery is fully charged, a work application of up to five hours can take place with the wheel loader WL20e enough time for typical applications, such as loading and transporting goods over short distances. A lead-acid battery is used that is time-tested and proven in the industrial sector. To charge, an electrical connection of 400V is required, which is available on most construction sites. For the charging process, the engine hood is opened and the battery connected to the battery charger. The corresponding plug receptacle is installed on the machine such that it is protected against dust and splash-water.
With a height of 2.19m and a width of just 1m, the wheel loader can easily be used in confined spaces or in buildings. The articulated pendulum joint allows the machine to remain stable even on uneven floors. As the front and rear ends can oscillate independently of each other, the wheels always have maximum traction. With an operating weight of 2,300kg, the battery-operated wheel loader WL20e achieves a tipping load of 1,416kg around 200kg more than the conventional machine. The shovel capacity with a standard bucket is 0.2 cubic meters.
Bomag BW 191 and BW206
At Intermat 2015 in Paris in April, Bomag will launch new models in its fifth generation of articulated tandem rollers, extending the choice of machines up to the 16 tonnes class, a sector in which good growth is expected.
With an operating weight of 12 16 tonnes, the BW 191 and BW 206 articulated tandem rollers are especially suited for thicker layers and for static compaction of open-pore asphalt. Three exciter systems are available for both models.
In addition to the applications where the proven Double Vibration and Asphalt Manager technologies are used, Tango Oscillation is used for sensitive and risk-free compaction in difficult areas, e.g. on joints (hot to cold), on bridges or near buildings. Tango Oscillation is controlled by just one amplitude, which means that all drivers can master and operate the system easily. The drum will not bounce in Tango mode, because the system always works at a tangent to the surface. This also prevents aggregate crushing. And with the large diameter drum no bow waves are pushed ahead, even at higher working speeds.
On the new tandem rollers, Bomag Economizer is used to measure compaction progress. This measuring system increases efficiency on site by indicating compaction during operations. This means unnecessary passes are avoided.
Bomag claims the rollers feature the roomiest operator’s cab on the market, giving the driver a clear view of the drum edge and an excellent 360° view of the site. The seating unit with steering wheel, operating arm rest and instruments can be moved across the full width of the cab. The suspended seat with integrated travel lever can be swivelled by 75° or 15° right or left. Drivers can operate these tandem rollers comfortably and intuitively.
Bobcat TL358, T35130S and T35140S
The Bobcat stand will provide the stage for the global launch of several new telescopic handler models the new TL358 6m lift height compact telehandler, in 2.6 or 3 tonne rated capacities; and the 13m and 14m T35130S and T35140S 3.5 tonne models aimed at the rental industry.
The TL358 has a very compact format, with restricted 2.10m width and height dimensions, allowing easy access to many congested areas and small buildings. If desired, it can also be supplied with a higher version of the cab for increased visibility. This new model has been designed to meet many applications where its overall compact dimensions, powerful 74.5kW engine and hydraulics, maneuverability and true loading capacity offer a very productive alternative to smaller machines limited in performance and use.
The introduction of the new 13m and 14m models follows on from the launch of the new Bobcat 10m, 12m, 14m and 18m lift height telescopic handlers over the last year. Although they have a simpler design intended to meet the needs of the rental business, the new T35130S and T35140S telehandlers still offer many of the advantages of the new generation models. Particular attention has been paid to aspects such as the protection of sensitive parts, and intuitive and safe operating to meet the needs of rental users. The easy-to-use compact stabilizers ensure that the full capabilities of all the new telescopic handlers can be utilized in the most confined working areas and close to walls (minimal loss of reach).
As in other new generation machines, the T35130S and T35140S telehandlers offer advanced features, such as the new Panoramic cab which has a large parabolic windscreen providing panoramic visibility especially when handling loads at height. In the cab, there is a new dashboard with digital display and intuitive controls including a joystick with integrated forward/reverse (FNR) control for improved productivity and safety.
CIFA K53H and K60H
CIFA continues to widen its Carbotech range of truck-mounted concrete pumps, with new high-performance materials enabling improved boom length-to-weight ratios. Two new models will be introduced, taking the family to six models.
The K53H and K60H can be mounted on four- and five-axle trucks, with limits of 42 and 44 tons respectively if mounted on four axles. Assembly on five axles allows an optimal load distribution on single axles to allow distribution in countries where regulations are stricter.
The K53H has a 53m five-section boom (the final two in carbon fiber) with an RZ folding system, while the K60H has a 60m boom made of six sections (the final two in carbon fiber) with RRZ folding system.
Both of them mount the new high-performance HP1808ECX closed-circuit pumping unit with maximum capacity of 180m3/h, 83 bar max pressure, and 260mm concrete cylinders that reduces the number of maximum cycles per minute to 27 a low number of cycles helps reduce wear and therefore costs.
