Building on the success of its cab and component manufacturing business, C&G Engineering has recently won a number of new contracts that will see the company grow substantially. Based in Clane, County Kildare, Ireland, the company was established in 1977 as an agricultural tractor and machinery dealership before diversifying into cab manufacture in 1985.
C&G recently won numerous product design and development contracts which will see the company’s turnover triple and employment grow from 12 to 25 employees by the end of the year. According to company director William Ganly, C&G’s development programme, can-do attitude and incredible staff are largely responsible for the company’s growth.
Back in 2010 C&G won a contract with AGCO to manufacture replacement doors for the Massey Ferguson 300 series. These were sold as ‘original parts’ through the Massey Ferguson dealer network worldwide. The company has already manufactured its 2,000th MF 300-series for AGCO since winning that contract a significant milestone and a substantial achievement for a small firm.
C&G continues to manufacture complete cabs for popular Massey Ferguson and Ford heritage models. The firm also develops and builds cabs for a huge variety of other equipment too, such as forklifts, dumpers, grass machinery and even boats.
C&G’s progressive attitude has led to the firm winning contracts to build safety cabs for a variety of other companies too, one example being Bradshaw in the UK, which manufactures a huge variety of small tow tractors, load carriers, golf buggies and more.
William Ganly explained, “We started manufacturing cabs for Bradshaw in 2013 and this has grown to the level where we are now building 150 cabs a year for them.”
Closer to home is Northern Irish firm NC Engineering, which builds a variety of agricultural equipment, including telehandlers and site dumpers for the construction sector.
“Working closely with NC, we developed a ROPS/FOPS tested safety cab for their four-wheel-drive dumper. We shipped the first batch of these to NC just before Christmas and have been very well received by NC,” said Ganly.
Hyster-Yale, which manufactures in excess of 10,000 forklifts annually at its facility in Craigavon, County Armagh, Ireland, is another customer, as Ganly explains: “Hyster-Yale is potentially a huge customer for forklift cabs. We are starting with manufacturing various components for one model which we would anticipate would be around 50 units per year. This represents a massive growth opportunity for us as Hyster-Yale is keen to do more business with us.”
Ongoing development will see C&G develop a new product for the mining industry. “We have just completed developing and testing a rear body for mining equipment firm Normet,” Ganly explained. “We developed a rear five-seat passenger body for one of Normet’s specialist mining bus vehicles and from its success, would anticipate this business to grow into the future.”
To meet the demand created by the combined growth and new contracts, not only will there be an increase in staffing levels but a considerable investment is also being made in the C&G plant to further increase its production capacity.
