The 986K has a 12.7-metric ton payload, allowing operators to maximise production in re-handling applications.
Weighing less and shorter than the company’s 988K loader, the new vehicle has been developed to compliment Cat’s 36.3- to 55.3 metric ton articulated and rigid-frame trucks.
Replacing the outgoing 988F legacy model, the new aggregate handler configuration includes an 8.3m3 bucket and additional counterweight to provide high volume loading of processed aggregates, so highway trucks can be loaded in less time.
Featuring Cat’s STIC steer, the one joystick combines: directional selection, gear selection and steering. For repetitive tasks, the joystick control requires the operator to exert less energy in comparison to a steering wheel reducing fatigue and increasing productivity as a result.
The C15 Acert engine meets EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage IV emission standards, while offering 278kW of power and the auto engine, idle shutdown limits idle time to maximise fuel efficiency. Additionally, load sensing hydraulics enhance machine performance and efficiency by directing hydraulic fluid flow through the implement and steering only when required.
A completely redesigned cab improves operator comfort, with entry via left- or right-hand stairs and built at a reduced 45-degree angle .
The STIC steer armrest can be easily folded up, while isolation cab mounts and an air-suspension seat reduce vibration transmitted to the operator for increased comfort and the enclosed, pressurized, sound-suppressed structure reduces noise levels for the operator as well.
Placement of switches and information displays have been done so as to be most ergonomic and simple, intuitive control interface features on the touch-screen display mean even in-experienced operators are capable of quickly learning how to operate it.
Extended service intervals for both fluids and filters are featured on the vehicle to reduce downtime and long-term operating costs.
